do you use a contractor for doing home repairs/remodeling or are you a do it yourself person?
if you’ve done it both ways was the cost savings of doing it yourself worth the time, effort and all that?
For any home repairs/renovations that require electrical wiring or plumbing…I’ll hire a licensed and insured professional contractor…and it’s money well spent.
If you have the time and patience to do a job right…then, depending on the going rate in your area for painters, sheetrockers, framers…you can be ‘paying yourself’ anywhere from $25. to $50. per hour to do the job yourself.
As an example…our two story log home needs re-staining. I am personally capable of staining up to 12′-15′…so I will do any sanding, prep work and staining of all the lower level…the porches…the garage, etc.
Then, hire a professional, handyman or unemployed contractor to do from the peak, down.
There are so many Diy programs and manuals out there…it’s easy enough to learn the proper way to install Pergo flooring or to hang wallpaper…
It’s just a matter of knowing what you’re capable of doing, if you have the proper tools or want to rent them…if you have the time and patience to do the job right…and knowing your limitations.

Coverage of current research findings and thought on cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions gives researchers a better understanding of the processes of remodeling and morphogenesis, which are critical to the development of drugs aimed at disrupting the early formation and proliferation of cancerous tumors. Inclusion of chapters that discuss the most contemporary thought on cell polarity and tissue morphogenesis, providing researchers with a better understanding of the control of cellular organization and polarity (particularly important to researchers who are developing treatments for developmental abnormalities and those working in cancer drug development). Contract Documentation for Contractors $130.95 The JCT standard forms of building contract require a thorough understanding of their procedural requirements, as well as their legal implications. They require both the contractor and the architect, on behalf of the employer, to send a wide range of notices and letters if each party is to protect its legitimate interests. Therefore, it is not surprising that when this book of specimen letters, notices and forms was first published, it was widely welcomed by the construction industry. The book provides examples of documentation likely to be required for a contract under the following JCT forms: ? the Standard Form of Building Contract ? the Intermediate Form of Building Contract ? the Agreement for Minor Building Works ? the Standard Form of Building Contract With Contractor’s Design It includes a commentary on the practical implications of the various documents and highlights the points to be watched. The new edition takes into account the wide range of amendments to the latest editions of the standard forms following the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, and in particular, the new payment and adjudication provisions. For the first time it features documentation for use with the JCT design and build form. |

The Archaeology of Home $26.99 When Katharine Greider was told to leave her house or risk it falling down on top of her and her family, it spurred an investigation that began with contractors’ diagnoses and lawsuits, then veered into archaeology and urban history, before settling into the saltwater grasses of the marsh that fatefully once sat beneath the site of Number 239 East 7th Street. During the journey, Greider examines how people balance the need for permanence with the urge to migrate, and how the home is the resting place for ancestral ghosts. The land on which Number 239 was built has a history as long as America’s own. It provisioned the earliest European settlers who needed fodder for their cattle; it became a spoil of war handed from the king’s servant to the revolutionary victor; it was at the heart of nineteenth-century Kleinedeutschland and of the revolutionary Jewish Lower East Side. America’s immigrant waves have all passed through 7th Street. In one small house is written the history of a young country and the much longer story of humankind and the places they came to call home. |
